Around twenty-five thousand homes in Queensland's southeast found themselves experiencing outages on the start of the week after intense storm systems passed over the area, producing powerful gusts topping 109km/h.

Massive Ice Stones and Widespread Damage

Homeowners reported substantial frozen pellets as large as 7cm in some areas. Meteorological experts verified that different parts across Queensland had been affected by significant hail.

Utility workers were focused on reestablishing energy supply throughout the damaged zones, with approximately seventy teams deployed to handle the widespread outages.

Victoria's Weather Woes

Meanwhile, around 1,000 energy customers in the southern state also encountered power outages after the capital city experienced its most precipitation in over 500 days.

State Emergency Services handled nearly 600 requests for assistance across the state, mostly for building damage but also for collapsed vegetation and flooding.

Most Affected Locations

  • The Werribee area - saw substantial destruction
  • Hoppers Crossing suburb - various emergency calls
  • Wyndham - 179 emergency requests

At the height on the previous day, in excess of 28,000 electricity consumers in Victoria were lacking electricity.

Climate Outlook

Humid circumstances were expected to linger along significant areas of the state's eastern regions this week as a atmospheric system continued to pull in damp air against the coastal areas.

Tuesday was predicted as the most rainy day, with ongoing severe weather risk anticipated across various areas of both regions.

Medical Alert

Public health experts alerted that there was an increased chance of weather-related respiratory issues across the countryside regions, particularly given the existing atmospheric conditions.

This caution comes after historical occurrences where analogous circumstances led to substantial respiratory problems in the region.
